BusTop

BusTop was first fashioned to adorn the streets of Middlesbrough town early in the twentieth century. Made of cast iron standing aloft on poles of pressed steel, they must have been welcome site to the many tourists who came to that town to admire them.

Auf Wiedersehen

One day we must all cross the one stranded river. Where then will you be?

1 Auf Wiederseh’n! Ich frage dich nimmer mehr
Ob du auf mich an dem Weg warten wollest
Weil ich zum Todesstrand gefahren bin
Und hier nimmer mehr züruckkommen kann.

Es tut mir leid

A song that could have been sung by the villagers to the returning Naomi, but that it is in German!

1 Es tut mir leid
um deinet willen:
Deine grimmige Not
kehrt dich unwillig um.

2 Es tut mir leid
dich anzusehen:
Deine glänzenden Aug’n
seh’n sich weinerlich um.

3 Es tut mir leid
du bist betrübt:
Der Allmächtige
gegen dich gesprochen hat.

4 Es tut mir leid
Na, es wird mir mehr leid tun:
Wenn er dich nicht
mit Sorge züchtigt,
Um dich zu verbessern
mit Heil und Gerechtigkeit.

Cædmon’s hymn

Nu scylun hergan

CædmonModern English
Nu scylun hergan
Metudæs mæcti
uerc uuldurfadur,
eci Dryctin,
He ærist scop
heben til hrofe,
Tha middungeard
eci Dryctin,
firum foldu,
hefaenricæs Uard,
end his modgidanc,
sue he uundra gihuæs,
or astelidæ.
ælda barnum
haleg Scepen.
moncynnæs Uard,
æfter tiadæ
Frea allmectig.
Now shall we praise heaven’s Guardian
His mighty power, his thoughtfulness,
The works of the glorious Father, how he wonderfully gives
The eternal Lord in the beginning established
And raised and made for the children of men
Heaven for a roof, the holy Maker.
Then the earth, mankind’s Guardian
The eternal Lord, afterwards adorned
As a home for them, the king almighty.

La partida

La partida es tan dulce pena

Que diria buenas noches
Hasta que fuera mañana
Duerme el lamento en sus ojos
Paz en su pecho
Tendria sueño
Y paz tan dulce como para descansar?

La partida es tan dulce pena
La partida es tan dulce pena

O Lord, I need thee

Oh my Lord, I need thee © Stephen Henwood 1970

Left

Oh my Lord, O my Lord,

I need thee near me
All the days yes,
All of the days of my life
Yes, all of the days of my life

So that I may go to heaven above
And walk by thy dear side
How I need thee

O how I need thy tender mercies
Each and ev’ry single day
Oh my Lord, O my Lord,

I need thee near me
All the days yes,
All of the days of my life,
Yes, all of the days of my life
O my Lord,
My Lord

Right

Oh my Lord,
My Lord,

I need thee near me
All the days yes,
All of the days of my life

So that I may go to heaven above
And walk by thy dear side

How I need
O how I need thy tender mercies
Each and ev’ry single day
Oh my Lord,
My Lord,

I need thee near me
All the days yes,
All of the days of my life,

My Lord

Warum nie?

Warum kann ich nie?

1 Warum kann ich nie vergessen
Dich wer hübsch und süss doch strahlt’st?
Dein Gesicht so klar
So fein dein Harr
Ich weiss nicht, na, was ich tue.

2 Warum kann ich nie vergessen
Dich wer mit mir sprachtest?
Die Worten so klar
Wen du sagtest da
Nun ich höre dich immer im Sinn.

3 Warum kann ich nie vergessen
Dich wer bei mich betrübt schientest?
Du warest so klar
Und ich ein Narr
Um deinetwillen geh’ ich ab.

4 Wie kann ich dich immer vergessen
Dich wer mich hältet’st in Angst?
Das Ergebnis so klar
Verliesset mich bar.
Ich habe nie Hoffnung nie Rüh’.

Wie kann ich dich immer vergessen?
So hilfst du mir mein Gott
